The activities of the Komitas Museum Institute are aimed at popularizing the creative heritage of Komitas Vardapet, the founder of the Armenian National School of Composers.

The museum-institute has eight permanent exhibition halls. Exhibitions related to Komitas, his contemporaries, as well as various branches of art (music, painting, graphics, photography, decorative-applied art, etc.) are regularly organized in the temporary exhibition hall.
The research center operating in the Komitas Museum-Institute aims to thoroughly and systematically research the activities of Komitas, archival materials related to Komitas, as well as study the historical and theoretical issues of Armenian traditional, folk and spiritual music, according to the scientific principles of Komitas.

The publishing house of the Komitas Museum-Institute publishes scientific works: monographs, collections of scientific articles, series, picture books of exhibitions organized in the temporary exhibition hall, the subject of which is related to Komitas, his contemporaries, Armenian folk and spiritual singing, and in a broader sense, Armenian culture.

Concerts of traditional and classical music are organized in the concert hall of the Komitas Museum-Institute.
One of the important branches of activity of the Komitas Museum-Institute is the implementation of educational programs. For schoolchildren and other social groups, the museum-institute offers multi-genre educational programs that create a unique encounter with the various layers of Komitas heritage, its time, environment and other areas related to its activities.

The summer school occupies a stable place in the educational programs of the Komitas Museum-Institute. It is held in two stages, according to two age groups, giving an opportunity to explore various topics related to music and art.

From September 26 to October 8, the "Komitas" annual international conference-festival is held, which is one of the important activities of the Komitas Museum-Institute. It includes a scientific session and a concert series. The international format of the conference-festival is provided by the participation of musicians-performers and scientists from different countries abroad. The basis of the concept of the festival is the popularization of Komitas' multi-branched music-collecting, musicological and creative activities and the Armenian national musical culture, as well as the discussion of various issues of modern Armenian musicology.

The Komitas Museum-Institute houses a music library, which is the structure that includes the richest collection of musicological books and CDs in Armenia.
